the demonstrated engagement of the many young children in the audience…attested to the quality of the production and the fact that it has managed to hit the mark for a family show…It was a sold-out crowd too and there were people lining up who hadn’t booked and were simply hoping to be let in Michelle Gosper, Sydney Arts Guide

Presented by Whale Chorus

Whale Chorus theatre company are back this summer with their sold out production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream set amongst the iconic fig trees of Pacific Park. Performed with live music and an ensemble of local actors, this locally grown Shakespeare Under the Stars event is one for the summer calendar not to be missed.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is one of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies which celebrates the magic and madness of love and how the natural world can transform us and alter our ways of seeing. When young Hermia is forbidden to marry her beloved Lysander, under the rule of the harsh Athenian law, the lovers run away to seek their freedom elsewhere. They are followed in pursuit by their two love-tangled friends, Helena and Demetrius. But as these young lovers venture into the forest, the wildness of nature takes over and fairies emerge to play tricks on them. Nearby a group of amateur actors are rehearsing a play and they too become bewitched in an unlikely love spell as the world of mortals and fairies collide. In Midsummer we see how both love and the forces of nature have the power to transform; they can overcome oppressive and archaic laws, they can instill chaos and madness, and ultimately they can make us see anew.
