Announcing Upstage 2024. A selected series of local performing arts work presented in the Playhouse from March to October. Upstage will provide an opportunity to introduce fresh, new and adapted works presented and performed by the local arts scene. The programme aims to bring local shows to local audiences, highlight the creative talent in our region and bring our community and creative industry closer.

A new opportunity

This opportunity is open to local theatre producers, playwrights and collectives who can deliver a work ready for the Playhouse stage.

Civic Theatre Newcastle will provide

  • In-kind venue hire

  • Technical Staffing support, if required.

  • Ticketing Services

  • Performance Staff (FOH and Ticket Office)

  • Marketing support including UpStage brochure, Digital and Social Media, CN Media Release, Publicity support

While not all the following criteria need to be met, they will form part of the selection matrix:

  • Stories that reveal Newcastle's identity including First Nations and stories from multicultural communities

  • Targeted engagement with young people (16-30 years)

  • New original works or re-imagined adaptations
